A. ALL Students: iPods in the Classroom to Support Literacy
Brucie K. Donahue , Marilyn Jeffrey, Bryan-St. John Schofield
Join us for an overview of Northfield Elementary School’s ALL (Audio Literacy Library) project. For the past year and a half, we have been responding to a need for greater literacy support in classrooms. iPods are currently being used in grades 2&3 to allow audio access to printed text. Part of the core reading program has been formatted for use on the iPod and students are listening independently! The plan is to expand the ALL project to include grades 4&5 and beyond. During this presentation, we will explain how we create the ALL library (with support from Apple), discuss its deployment in the classroom, and look to the future.

C. Using Technology to Motivate Foreign Language Students at the Middle Level.
Kathleen Cummings
A variety of easily accessible software and hard ware tools can be used to assist students in their assimilation and understanding of non-native languages. From Tool factory software to hand-held computers and from touch screens to PowerPoint teachers can use the power of technology to motivate and students can use it to develop a deeper understanding. This presentation will show how one teacher has successfully used these tools in her foreign language classroom.
D. Multimedia in Education, Boon or Bust?
Kandy Culver
Through a technology grant, the Waits River Valley School installed three multimedia classrooms. These classrooms have a networked computer with Internet access connected to a SmartBoard, a media projector, and a document camera. The teachers involved are using these tools for the first time. One of the teachers will reflect on her experience, show digital video of lessons, and facilitate an interactive discussion concerning the impact of this type of multimedia on learning.

F. Smart Pad Uses in the Classroom: A cheaper and more interactive approach to technology in the classroom.
Susan and Todd Ponto
The presenters will demonstrate ways that a Smart Pad can be used by teachers and students in the classroom. The smart pad is a tablet that communicates via bluetooth to your computer and allows the teacher to have all abilities of a smart board while moving around the room. Participants will actually use this tool and will experience how it can be used to go over homework, run an interactive website, teach reading and writing skills, and do mathematics.
The participants will leave with interactive websites, lesson ideas, and handouts to explain how to use this valuable tool. They will also be provided with information on cost factors and companies that may provide them with more information.
